About Idukki.com

An independent guide to Kerala’s mountain district, written for travellers who want more than a checklist of viewpoints.

Idukki.com exists because the high ranges deserve better than a rushed loop of viewpoints seen through a car window. It is an independent travel guide to Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon and the rest of Idukki district — written to be genuinely useful before you go and while you are there, in English, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic and French.

What we cover

  • How to reach the hills from Kochi, Madurai and further afield, with realistic journey times.
  • Which tours are worth booking, ranked honestly.
  • What to see — Munnar’s tea country, Eravikulam, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Vagamon, the Idukki Arch Dam, Ramakkalmedu, Marayoor and Chinnar.
  • Where to stay, so you can be out in the hills when nobody else is.
  • When to come, and what each season really feels like on the ground.

How we research

Information is checked against official sources, operators, transport companies and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Where a figure moves around — entry fees, boat timings, jeep rates, dam opening dates — we say so and suggest you check locally, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when a day trip is rushed, when the monsoon will hide the view or close the road, and when the free option is the better one.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and link to Trip.com for hotels. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is how this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Roads close, hotels change hands, fees go up. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.
